The Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial

The Judah P. Benjamin Confederate Memorial is a Florida State Park in Ellenton known as the Gamble Plantation or the Gamble Mansion. The Gamble Plantation Historic State Park, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is home to the Florida Division United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and has several attractions.

Major Robert Gamble erected a lovely antebellum mansion, the carefully preserved wooden-framed Victorian-style Patten House, erected for George Patten in 1872, and sixteen acres of the former sugarcane plantation, which formerly encompassed 3,500 acres. The park also contains the Confederate Veterans Memorial Monument, which was built in 1937, and a visitors center with a plethora of information on the area.

Emerson Point Preserve

Emerson Point Preserve is a 365-acre preserve located near Snead Island in western Palmetto near the mouth of the Manatee River. It offers spectacular examples of Florida’s wildlife and native plant groups, as well as various ancient and historical relics.

The Native American Portavant Temple Mound is a historical monument.
